键盘乐器(the keyboard family)
凡装有键盘，用手按键发音之乐器，叫键盘乐器。此类乐器上内部装有弦、簧、钢片或电子零件。
1.钢琴(piano)
因可同时演奏曲调与和声，音域宽广(88键)，且可轻易弹奏强弱的力度，表现能力无出其右者，故称「乐器之王」，1700年左右由义大利的乐器製造家克里斯托佛里(b. cristofori)製造，只要轻按琴键，就会使弦受到琴槌的敲击，每个琴键都连接一个琴槌及制音器，制音器轻靠弦上以避免琴弦受振动而发声，当按键时，制音器离弦，琴槌即击琴弦发声，并反弹回原位，琴键復原时，制音器又轻靠琴弦，制止琴声，若踏下延音踏瓣时制音器即停止作用，音得以延长并与其他相关琴弦產生共震。平台钢琴(grand piano)琴弦较长，共鸣箱上的反响板大，适合大型演奏会场用，立式钢琴(uprightpiano)较不佔空间，适合家庭或一般教室用。
2.大键琴(harpsichord)
大约兴起於十四、十五世纪的键盘乐器，巴洛克时期与低音乐器(如大提琴)共同担任和声伴奏的角色，直到十八世纪以后才被钢琴所取代，发音原理与现代钢琴不同，是用拨子拨弦发音的，音量较钢琴小，声音无法延长，故常以长的震音来表达长音，音色轻巧明亮，适合巴洛克室内乐之合奏(如维瓦第的四季协奏曲)或為独奏乐器伴奏。
3.钢片琴(celesta)
是1886年法国人穆斯泰尔 (a. mustel)研製出来的小型键盘乐器，用许多有固定音高的金属片排列在一个木製的共鸣箱上，弹奏时以琴槌击钢片发出，形状有如直立的小型钢琴，可奏出音高，柴科夫斯基的胡桃钳组曲中「仙女之舞」，可以听到钢片琴银铃般清脆的声响 。
4.管风琴(pipe organ)
管风琴是体积最庞大、也是最古老的乐器之一，十三世纪时已在欧洲各地流行，并且已广泛被应用在教堂内。大型的管风琴音域相当广大，能利用不同的管及利用不同泛音的配合而发声，空气的输送今改由电流控制，操作台上有两层或数层键盘，一排足踏板用以演奏乐曲的低音部，操作极复杂，因此弹奏管风琴需要身体各部分的协调及相当的体力，颇具挑战性。
