微软在2003年年末推出的一项计算机客户端技术支持人员的中级认证：mcdst(microsoft certified desktop support technician-微软认证桌面支持工程师)。mcdst认证主要考核windows xp操作系统的故障排除和windows xp操作系统上的应用程序故障排除技术，工作任务主要包括日常操作系统故障诊断。
通过考试可得到两张微软证书：mcps（微软认证产品专家）和mcdst（微软认证操作系统技术支持工程师）
通过mcdst认证仅需通过两门新的考试科目:
70-271:微软windows桌面操作系统的用户支持和排错
supporting users and troubleshooting windows desktop operating systems
70-272:微软windows桌面操作系统平台上的应用程序的用户支持和排错
supporting users and troubleshooting applications on a windows desktop operating system platform
